What is sterling silver and how do I calculate Zakat on it?
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver. Multiply the total weight of your sterling silver items by 0.925 to get the pure silver equivalent. Then multiply by today's spot price per gram to get the market value, and pay 2.5%. Example: 200g of sterling silver × 0.925 = 185g pure silver × £1.79/g = £331.15 × 2.5% = £8.28 Zakat.
