What cataract surgery does
Cataract surgery replaces a cloudy natural lens with an artificial lens to improve vision. Assessment, the procedure and follow-up all matter, and results depend on the individual eye and the patient’s other health conditions.
The NHS explains that the procedure is usually successful but complications can occur, and some people still need glasses. This page is about funding care, not advice for an individual patient.
How your gift reaches a patient
We pay partner hospitals directly, against trustee-approved lists of named patients. We never give cash to individuals and we do not run our own hospitals. Surgery is carried out by licensed partner clinicians registered with the PMDC in Pakistan, the KKI in Indonesia or the MMC in Malaysia.

What a cataract operation costs
Around £200 is a planning estimate for cataract surgery, supplied to World Aid Network by consultant ophthalmic surgeon Mr Mohamed Mohyudin. Actual costs depend on the patient, facility and included care; it is not a fixed price or a guaranteed result.
Any amount you give is a contribution to eye care, not the purchase of a particular operation or outcome.
Giving Zakat to eye surgery
You can mark a gift to eye surgery as Zakat at checkout, and we record it as Zakat. We do not issue Shariah rulings. If you are unsure whether paying a hospital for a named patient meets the approach you follow, read whether Zakat can fund medical treatment or ask a qualified scholar before you give.
How to give
Choose an amount on our donation page, pick Sadaqah or Zakat, and pay by card through Stripe Checkout; your card details never reach our servers. Gift Aid is not available. You can also give monthly. More programme detail is on worldaidnetwork.org.
