Sadaqah Jariyah refers to ongoing charity whose benefit continues. When considering a project, ask how it creates and maintains that benefit. A one-off donation can have lasting effects, but a website should not guarantee a particular spiritual reward or lifelong clinical outcome.
Think about the continuing benefit
Examples commonly discussed include resources or services that remain useful over time. The intention, use and durability of the benefit matter. Ask how a project is maintained and who can use it, rather than judging it only by its name.
Medical care and lasting effects
Helping someone access medical care may benefit their daily life and family over time. That does not justify a promise that every procedure permanently restores sight or that every patient will have the same outcome. Clinical care is individual.
Keep it distinct from Zakat
A project described as Sadaqah Jariyah is not automatically eligible for Zakat. If you intend Zakat, recipient and distribution requirements still apply. Ask for guidance before assigning a restricted religious payment to a general long-term project.
Choosing a project
Look for a clear purpose, programme detail, maintenance or follow-up arrangements and reporting. For World Aid Network’s work, use the main website and its current programme information.
